The Loons Page

Loons are one of my favorite species of bird. So lovely, with an evocative call (featured on so many movie sound tracks when they want the sounds of nature but not a picture of an actual loon). 

Loons are rare visitors to Norwood Pond/Lake. As far as I know they don't stay here to breed. If they alight on our waters it is more than likely because they are taking a rest on their way to somewhere else. This happened at least twice this spring. On May 14 a group of 14 loons spent the evening here (link to pictures is below). Remarkably, they were seen together with a group or White-winged Scoter, a species I had never seen before. Their appearance together must have been a coincidence because by next morning the scoters were still here but the loons were already gone.

On April 17, 2020 a solitary loon spent some hours here (see separate link below).

Finally, the third link is to pictures of loons elsewhere simply because I like the pictures.
