The two cowbirds in the first two pictures visited our backyard on July 2, 2020. This is the only time I have seen them in our backyard and, in fact, the only time I have seen them in the neighborhood. Given the ubiquity of the grackles in the remaining pictures on this page, I feel that cowbirds should be more common. I have no idea if my solitary observation is typical.

For a short time each summer the noisy, gregarious, and opinionated grackles visit our backyard to feast on the suet. Then they disappear.
