As of June 21, 2020 there are more than 50 albums (many of them ospreys!) on this site. There are many more albums and photographs still to be posted. My personal list runs to 62 (now 64) different species just on this stretch of River Road. There are many that I have not yet been able to photograph. I have had reports of species that some of this site's visitors have seen, but that I have not. What have you seen, or photographed? Let me know using the email address at the bottom of this page.

The Bugs of River Road

The View from the Road

Where in the world is River Road?

With few exceptions (and those will be noted) the pictures on these web pages were taken along a two and a half mile strip of River Road, the street on which I live. But which River Road? According to data compiled by the US Census Bureau, there are more than 3000 River Roads in the United States. Some individual states (e.g. Wisconsin) have more than 200 of them!

This particular River Road connects the small towns of Potsdam to Norwood, New York. The map below left shows the entire length of that part of River Road (it continues north of the intersection for a few more miles). The map below right shows the particular stretch of the road where (most of) these photographs were taken. The names on the map shown at right are my own labels for these locations.
